As a kid I read Around the World in Eighty Days and fell in love with the history and adventure. I recreated the route the characters traveled in the book with a hand-drawn map and from there began imagining new ways to travel the world using various transportation engines. My creative map-making hobby and interest in technology stayed with me throughout my college years. After my undergraduate degree in graphic design, I wanted to start my own travel business. My initial thought was to use my proficiency in graphic design to help build a travelogue website or travel blog. But my initial idea changed into something different.

Today, we don’t need to rely on steam engines and steamers to cross the world, as the characters in Around the World in Eighty Days had to; we can use online ticketing systems, satellite maps, and apps to help us plan our journeys. Apps can help travelers solve all those headaches that come from planning a trip, and I think traveling the world is much easier if you can plan out your route in advance. My proposed travel and tourism app would allow travelers to plan their entire trip with a fully interactive map, travel tips, suggested locations to visit, and an option to book train and plane tickets.

Now that the development of my app is at an advanced stage, I hope to learn what it takes to run a business and gain the necessary skills to make my tourism and travel start-up a success, so I decided an MBA would be the best course. With its focus on tourism marketing, your program is ideal for providing me with the knowledge I need to make my new business a success.
