Drexel University College of Medicine is an out of state friendly medical school, as 69% of its students are out of state residents.

Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine

Established in 2004, the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine's mission is to "educate aspiring physicians and scientists to serve society using a community-based, patient-centered, interprofessional and evidence-based model of education that is committed to inclusion, promotes discovery and utilizes innovative techniques." Each year, 5700 applicants compete for 115 available spots in the MD program.

Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University

Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University's mission is to be "dedicated to excellence in education, research and patient care, achieved by faculty, staff and learners who represent and serve our diverse society." Each year, approximately 10,000 applicants compete for 800 interviews and 200 available spots in the MD program. Desirable applicants will possess the following qualities:

  • able to listen and take another’s point of view
  • self-confidence
  • articulate
  • compassionate
  • socially conscious

Location: Philadelphia, PA

Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine

Established in 1963, the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine's mission is to "enhance the quality of life through improved health, the professional preparation of those who will serve the health needs of others, and the discovery of knowledge that will benefit all." Each year, approximately 11,500 applicants compete for 800 interviews and 180 spots into the MD program.

Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania

Location: Philadelphia, PA

The Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania's mission is to "advance knowledge and improve health through research, patient care, and the education of trainees in an inclusive culture that embraces diversity, fosters innovation, critical thinking, supports lifelong learning and sustains our legacy of excellence."

Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University

Founded in 1824, the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University's mission is to "educate physicians who will form and lead the integrated healthcare delivery and research teams of tomorrow; discovering new knowledge that will define the future of clinical care through investigation from the laboratory to the bedside, and into the community; and setting the standard for quality, compassionate and efficient patient care for our community and for the nation." One in four to one in five students in the US apply to medical school at Sidney Kimmel Medical College, making it an extremely popular medical school. Each year, approximately 11,000 students apply to Sidney Kimmel and compete for 270 available spots into its MD program.

University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine

Founded in 1886, the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine's mission is to "improve the health and well-being of individuals and populations through cutting-edge biomedical research, innovative educational programs in medicine and biomedical science, and leadership in academic medicine." Each year, approximately 7000 applicants compete for 140 positions in the MD program.
