Experience Type: Social Justice/Advocacy

Experience Name: Autism and mental health advocate

Hours: 500

Most Meaningful: No

Description:

In my undergraduate years I formed a student club aimed at raising awareness about and advocating for students with autism. The club also supported student mental health initiatives and provided a space for students with autism to share their experiences, find resources and support. We hosted events against student bullying, club fundraisers which helped promote awareness of what autistic students experience daily and assisted fellow students with receiving educational accommodations at the college. The club had 52 members at its height, and we were able to provide resources and accommodations for over 100 students so they would have the same access to education as non-autistic students.
