Recommendation Letter from a DO

Dear Director of Admissions at [University]

It is my pleasure to write this letter of recommendation for Mr. Scott Dalton. Scott has been working for me at the Bolton Community Health Clinic for the past 2 years, as part of his ambition to study osteopathic medicine and become a doctor of osteopathy. I hired Scott initially as a receptionist at the clinic, and he has since taken on additional responsibilities as my medical assistant. Scott has always brought careful thoroughness, genuine compassion and a refreshing open-mindedness to his position and the clinic.

Whether he is acting as a receptionist or my assistant, Scott shows his attention to detail and care for patients. He checks and confirms patient information when asking preliminary questions, is careful to fill out every step and piece of information when taking a patient’s history, and never fails to ask patients if they have any questions. If Scott cannot answer a patient question, he is sure to alert me so that I can consult the patient’s concern or query. Scott’s dedication has meant a smoother intake process for my patients and a greater level of organization in patient records at the clinic, which myself and the other staff appreciate.

When he first began assisting me with patients, Scott’s compassion and care were immediately noticed. Patients of all ages often remark feeling very at ease with Scott. With every patient who walks into the clinic, Scott will greet them with a smile or conversation while they wait. Scott has become well-known at our clinic for being on friendly terms with all the patients and staff alike.

Scott has demonstrated a great deal of open-mindedness and desire for knowledge. Every week, Scott has come to work bursting to discuss the latest article he has read in the break room. With Scott, I have had long discussions on osteopathic treatments or emerging ideas in illness prevention after his interest was sparked reading an article to deepen his understanding of medicine. Scott’s insatiable curiosity and thorough analysis of everything he reads has been a pleasure to foster as he discovers more about osteopathic medicine.

I cannot recommend Scott highly enough for your program. I believe he will one day become an excellent Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. He exemplifies the ideal qualities of an osteopathic physician and admirable dedication to his continued learning. Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can provide further information on Scott’s candidacy.

Kind Regards,

Dr. [Name], DO
