What is the Quebec Perspective Scholarship?

The Quebec Perspective Scholarship is a financial award available to students pursuing post-secondary education in Quebec. Established to support and empower Quebec's future leaders, the scholarship aims to recognize and reward students who demonstrate academic excellence, strong leadership qualities, and a commitment to making a positive impact in their community. The scholarship is awarded to students who have a clear vision of their future goals and a strong motivation to achieve them.

The primary objective of the QPSP is to encourage students to pursue diplomas in programs that lead to employment in fields experiencing workforce shortages. The government has prioritized these fields in strategic economic sectors, such as engineering and information technology, as well as essential public services, including health and social services, education, and educational childcare services.

The scholarships are awarded after each successful full-time term in eligible programs. At the college level, students receive $1,500 per term, for a total of $9,000 for a three-year program. At the university level, $2,500 is awarded each term, amounting to a total of $15,000 for a three-year program and $20,000 for a four-year program.

The eligible programs are divided into two sections: the first section lists all of the college programs, while the second section lists programs by university.

When a program is not included in the list of eligible programs for the QPSP scholarship, it indicates that the program does not lead to a profession prioritized by the Quebec government as part of Opération main-d'œuvre.

Eligibility Criteria for the Quebec Perspective Scholarship

To be eligible for the Quebec Perspective Scholarship, you must meet the following requirements:

1. Citizenship and Residency: You must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident and considered a Quebec resident.
2. Enrollment in Targeted Programs: You must be studying in a targeted college or university program. Consult the list of eligible programs to ensure your program is included.
3. No Concurrent Scholarships: You cannot be a beneficiary of the Excellence Scholarships for Students in Education Programs program for the period covered by your application.
4. Completion of Study Terms: You must have completed your full-time study term if you attended school on a full-time basis, or your part-time study term if you attended school on a part-time basis but were deemed a full-time student based on the requirements applicable to your situation.
5. Maximum Number of Eligible Study Terms: You must respect the maximum number of eligible study terms based on your level of education. At the college level, the maximum number of eligible study terms is six. At the university level, the maximum number of eligible study terms varies from six to eight for undergraduate studies, five for master's studies, and 15 for doctoral studies.

Details on Full-time or Deemed Full-time Studies

At the college level, you are considered a full-time student if you register for at least 180 hours in a study term, or 165 hours if Physical Education is one of the courses taken. To have the status of a deemed full-time student, you must register for a minimum of 90 hours.

At the university level, you are considered a full-time student if you earn a minimum of 12 credits at the undergraduate level, nine credits at the master’s level, or nine credits at the doctoral level. To have the status of a deemed full-time student, you must register for a minimum of six credits, regardless of whether you are at the undergraduate, master’s, or doctoral level.

Only courses specific to the program and necessary for obtaining the degree in question are taken into account.

Exclusions

Some activities are not eligible for calculating the hours or credits required for the scholarship program. These include:

• A preparatory course or a prerequisite for a study program
• A course that makes up for a college course, extending the program's length
• A cooperative internship
• A course where credits were previously obtained
• A recognition of previously gained skills or a course substitution
• A course where credits are not mandatory for achieving the degree

How to Apply for the Quebec Perspective Scholarship

Applying for a Québec Perspective Scholarship requires a few essential steps and keeping track of specific deadlines. Remember that your application is not automatically renewed, which means you need to submit a new application after each full-time or deemed full-time study term that you successfully complete in your program until you finish it.

Here are the deadlines for submitting an application:

• Fall term: February 28
• Winter term: July 31
• Summer term: October 31

To complete your application, make sure you have the following information handy:

• Your permanent code (consisting of 4 letters and 8 digits)
• Your social insurance number
• The name of your program of study and your educational institution
• Your banking information

Applying for the Scholarship Online

The quickest and most convenient way to apply for the Québec Perspective Scholarship is through an online application in your Student Financial Assistance File. 

To create a file, you'll need the following information:

• Social Insurance Number (SIN)
• Date of birth
• Email address

Once your file is created, you can complete an online application with all the required information.
